"blame it on the boogie" by "BIG FUN"

Bonus file for DDRExtreme.co.uk 80's Mix 2006

(re-released file)

=====================================

NOTE: This stepfile was meant to feature its accompanying music video, but the music DVD my sister was going to buy has since been recalled.

Plus I didn't get anybody to calculate the new gap value anyway, so it's just as well.

=====================================

THE SONG:

This song is a 1988 cover of the classic Jackson 5 disco tune.

It is taken from the 2000 album "The Hit Factory: Pete Waterman's Greatest Hits".
If you like cheesy pop music from the 80's and 90's I suggest you get it.
Featured artists include Kylie Minogue, Dead Or Alive, 2 Unlimited, Steps, Bananarama and many more.

This mp3 is not the best, sorry. You can even hear where I've edited it down in some places!
This is the exact same mp3 from 2003.
I would have done a new version, but the original CD has a scratch on it, and several songs will not play anymore.

THE GROUP:

Big Fun were a rather ghastly "boy band" (I hate that term!) from 1988.
They had several hits, including this and "Can't Shake The Feeling".
They were the brainchild of Stock, Aitken and Waterman.
I remember the video for this included a LOT of people dancing in bad clothes.

THE STEPS:

The beginner, basic and trick steps are based strongly on their original versions.
The maniac steps have been radically altered, but are more like what I had planned to do originally.
Overall, I think the steps for this song are just ...odd. But is that such a bad thing?

THE FILE:

Some of you may remember this file having challenge steps, but this was because DWI and StepMania did not support Beginner mode back then.
Each step set has been moved down a level, so to speak.
The mp3 was edited in Adobe Premiere, and the song was roughly synched using XStep.
Steps were created in StepMania 3.0 final and XStep.

THE GRAPHICS:

The banner is a brand new Photoshop recreation of the original song graphic, using the same fonts and layout but with some enhancements.
I tried to give it more of a glittery disco feel, to reflect the song's origins.
The bg is the original from 2003, and this was created in a program called Real-Draw.
TIP: If you're scared of Photoshop I suggest you give it a go.
It served me well, I have used it for several of my files.

THE LEGEND: (LOL!)

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away there was a website. It was a very small website, but it had big ambitions.
The site's name was RageMix.tk.

It wasn't much to look at, as it consisted of 6 song banners, in two columns of three.
Each image eventually became an active link to download a step file from Bemanisims, and over time the 6 became 7.
Now, these step files did not feature the best step patterns, and they weren't even synched very well.
But for some reason, people liked the files.

Maybe this was that they were good songs, or maybe it was simply the fact everybody else was making step files to songs from "Beatmania" back then.

=====================================

Looking back, you could say I was part of the new generation of step file artists, as I always made an effort to include a full set of steps, and I chose well known chart songs as well as personal favourites. But most of all, I put the artist's name on the song banner!
Another person who was just starting out at this time was the_ditz. You may remember him!

From March to June 2003, I released 7 files, some liked more than others. (But to be honest, all of them sucked!)
I then took a break from step files until October, when EARLY IN THE MORNING (WE LIKE THE CAPTAIN) was released.
That was the first file I ever synched properly - but that's another story...
